It’s Grand Designs Live 2019 At The NEC Oct 9-13

Celebrating 20 Years Of The Grand Designs TV Show

When we first started Contemporary Log Living, we were part of the Sales & Marketing Team at the Ideal Home Show Exhibition in 2011.

We fell in love with everything to do with self-building, open plan living and contemporary home designs.

At that time self-building was being seen as the best route to solving the housing shortage problem in the UK.

With Grant Shapps as the housing minister and Kevin Mc Cloud heralding the benefits our European friends enjoy when it comes to self-building a lot of research went in to see how more people could benefit from building their own home.

Fast forward to today and the Government target of 300,000 new homes every year are in the hands of companies such as Barratts, Taylor Wimpey and Bovis to name a few.

Without plots to build on or mortgages to assist everyday people like you & I, self-building your own dream home still remains out of touch for the vast majority of people in the UK.

So our guilty pleasure is the Grand Designs TV Show where we can take a front row seat and watch the ups and downs of self-building in the UK.

And we can indulge ourselves twice a year at the Grand Designs Live events at London in the Spring and the NEC, Birmingham in October.

This year the Grand Designs TV Show is celebrating 20 years of being at the forefront of challenging home design in the UK and we haven’t met a customer of ours yet who doesn’t love the show!

So we’ll be popping along to NEC as visitors this year and indulging in our passion for home & garden design inspiration!

Here are some of latest finds from one of our favourite websites Home Designing to put you in the mood for a great Grand Designs filled week!

Silver Grey And White Are Still In Vogue

Open plan living spaces work well when you treat each area as a designated zone (such as dining / living space / kitchen etc)

Then define the spaces with key pieces of coordinating furniture.

Greys and white are still very popular and suit small or large spaces.

Tan Leather Never Goes Out Of Style

When it comes to comfort, durability and style tan leather sofas take some beating.

Mixed with dark greys it takes on a sophisticated modern look and using plants softens the look.

This stylish living space delivers on style & family friendliness too.

Keep It Clean, Simple & Easy To Live With!

In this space, less is definitely more.

Adding just enough of everything keeps this space light and spacious with a great focal point of the picture arrangement to add interest.

Minimal, easy on the eye and easy to live with.

Clean Simple Uncluttered Lines Are Always In Style

A kitchen island is on everyone’s wish list in a modern hard working kitchen space.

By keeping colours neutral and opting for a white marble finish on the island and on the splash back to the run of units, this elegant kitchen space is both practical and stylish without being too out of touch with family living needs today.

Display Your Favourite Art As A Perfect Feature Wall

A large display of coordinating pictures can quickly turn a boring plain wall into something amazing.

Dark grey walls can absorb lots of light in a room, so by adding the pictures, lots of light bounces back off the glass frames into the room.

Next Home have a great ready made monochrome picture set to get you started on achieving this look in your home.

Keep Tasks & Ideas In Focus With A Blackboard Wall Behind Your Home Office Area

Blackboards are a popular way to keep your family organised and your shopping list topped up.

So what better way than to add one to your home office space to keep track of your projects too!

And when that next brilliant idea springs to mind, you’ll have somewhere to capture it!

Loft Spaces And Hard Wearing Industrial Style Decor For More Masculine Appeal

New York style loft spaces are the perfect space to let that more masculine decor take pride of place to create an ambiance that is difficult to achieve in any other way.

Mixing dark greys, natural wood and industrial style lighting helps create a unique Grand Designs style living space with unique proportions.

The high gloss floor adds to the look.

Gleaming Copper Accents With Dark Greys For A Modern Grand Designs Style Kitchen

Copper has become a firm favourite metallic accent in home interior design over the last few years.

It works beautifully with dark greys and modern glossy or super matt cabinets and there are a whole host of accessories available online for every room of the house you want copper as your accent colour.

We love the look of this Grand Designs style copper kitchen island idea that is mirrored in the splash back behind it and in the light fittings to give a totally coordinated look.
