Case Study: Garden Annexe Project In St Albans
Close To Loved Ones But Still Independent
Our recent garden annex installation in St Albans was a real test of patience and resolve from our customers.
As the Certificate of Lawfulness came through and the final site survey & design session were finalised in came the Covid-19 lock down to suspend the project from starting in March / April as planned.
With our customers parents and our customers forced to find a way through together for what was then an unknown period of time, thankfully Good News came when construction was one of the first sectors to be given the green light to go back to work.
Despite all sorts of post Covid-19 lock down issues with supplies and accommodation (hotels were still not open at that point) it took some creative thinking to get this project moving again.
Was it all worth the wait?
You bet!

A Warm & Welcoming Home
Our customers chose a lovely combination of neutral colours to help create this warm & welcoming garden retreat.
After weeks and weeks of lock down, home schooling & working from home to get through, this lovely annexe was a welcome sight for everyone as it took shape over several weeks during the Summer.
Creating The Stylish Bathroom
Our customers chose grey vinyl click flooring in the bathroom and by making the most of the space available, we were able to create a large modern bathroom complete with quadrant shower and a large vanity unit.
They also chose one of the latest internal door designs to complete the look, keeping everything light, airy & neutral.
The grey, white and chrome bathroom is the perfect back drop for any accent colour for towels & accessories.
And to make sure everything is a low maintenance as possible, we used shower wall panels to create a wipe-clean grout free finish to the shower and above the vanity.
A sky light was also added for extra natural light.
“We absolutely love our new cottage and really appreciate all the hard work and planning involved. Our build team were great to work with and we appreciated their patience with our many questions.”

A Real Little Home At The Bottom Of The Garden
Garden annexes quickly become a favourite place to visit for friends and family. You never tire of walking around the back of a house and seeing one for the first time.
At 10 metres by 6.5 metres, this garden annexe has over 60 square metres of living space making it very comfortable for the new annexe owners Noel & Pat.
The large garden plot in St Albans means that there is still plenty of garden space to be enjoyed by everyone in the family for many years to come.
The kitchen is Howdens Fairford Antique white in a popular shaker style with an oak style laminate worktop and upstand.
The breakfast bar / island idea was all down to our customer who suggested it would make a great addition to the living space and provide extra storage and worktop space.
The flooring is an oak style laminate throughout the living space and our customers chose carpet for the bedroom.
Multi-Generation Living At It’s Best
With family & friends close by, who can resist the new retirement option of annexe living?
We all went through the Covid-19 lock down together with none of us knowing how long it would be for or what would happen next. It was a real test for us as a company and them as our customers but I think we can all agree as the sun goes down on a late Summer evening, it was certainly worth the wait.
