3 Real Log Lodges Perfect For Guest Lodges

"KU95 Finnish Log Lodge"

One of the great successes in 2014 was the brilliant weather coming after what was the wettest winter on record in 2013 and one of the trends that continued despite some of the economic downturns was the UK “staycation.”

We ventured to Cornwall ourselves as a family with our Grandson in tow and spent a charming week in a Scandinavian style log lodge in what seemed to be a hidden forest called Deerpark Forest in North Cornwall.

Deerpark Forest

The surprise was these lodges have been up for over 20 years and they are extremely popular for families looking for high standard self-catering accommodation near to the popular tourist attractions that Cornwall in this case has to offer yet still be “away from it all” in peaceful surroundings with nature all around for you to explore.

As a side note the Deerpark Forest Duck Race is a must do if you stay there for pure laugh out loud entertainment.

Guest Lodges of all sizes offer a great second or full-time income opportunity if you have the land and one of the Guest Lodges we were involved with last year was The Cabin in Worcestershire.

So as this is the time of year the TV adverts are running to remind you to book your next holiday, we have selected 3 Kuusamo Log Homes that are 100 square metres or under that would be perfect for your new Guest Lodge business.

The layout lends itself beautifully to a guest lodge in either a forest setting or by a river or lake with its open plan living space and large windows any guest would be more than happy to pay in the region of £850 to £1250 per week for high standard accommodation like this obviously depending on the location and time of year.

One of the best aspects of a traditional log home style guest lodge is that the Christmas bookings will be strong as a lot of people would love to spend Christmas in a cosy log home with a roaring fire or log burner.

Guest Lodge businesses that have “different” accommodation are the ones that are typically experiencing 80% occupancy or higher throughout the year.

Not many hotels can compete with this style of accommodation and guest lodges of this type are perfect for young couples with young children who often find hotels + toddlers a nightmare combination.

They are also great for the vast amount of walkers, cyclists and natural lovers who like nothing more than to explore as much of the UK countryside as possible.

Prices

All European homes and Log Homes are determined by a price per square metre NOT by number of bedrooms.

**Expect to pay in the region of £750 – £950 per square metre for the Log Home kit itself.

**Expect to pay in the region of £1000 – £1500 per square metre for a full turn-key supply & build home.

* The final price will be determined by a number of factors (including the size and final design and specification of your home) such as:-

  • Foundations
  • Planning Permission
  • Services to site
  • Labour to erect the Log Kit Home
  • Insulation (if not supplied or to meet Building Regulations)
  • Plumbing
  • Electrics
  • Heating
  • Kitchen
  • Flooring
  • Appliances
  • Plastering
  • Painting & Decorating
  • Contingency

As a ball park figure work out the cost of the Log Home kit (eg 110 square metre home x £800 = £ 88,000 then double it plus 15% contingency for a better idea as to the real cost of a log home).

Self building your next home is all about investing in the most valuable real estate of tomorrow available today. You are building a home at roughly half the cost that the finished home would fetch on the open market. (It is not a cheap way of building, although it is cost-effective but it is an extremely valuable way of building your next home and gaining instant equity the moment you finish it)

If you are looking to self-build with a budget less than £100,000 then an annexe would probably be your best choice.
