London Sets The Pace For A More Contemporary Skyline
Note from Pete : As a Londoner myself I always love to visit London not live there, all that rush rush rush is not for me on a daily basis and as for being squashed like sardines in the Tube … well it was like Close Encounters of The Third Kind at times!
The link to London from Wolverhampton and Birmingham via the Virgin service now is so quick it really was easy to get right into the heart of London and visit both the Ideal Home Show at Earl’s Court and the amazing Eco-Build at London’s spectacular venue the Excel.
What was also so noticeable was the dramatic increase of very contemporary offices and buildings everywhere in London which is probably why Eco-Build was such a massive exhibition as it is clear to see where future investment is headed.

The Ideal Home Show 2012 at Earl’s Court in London has been good for Exhibitors this year as people look to snap up those show offers and show special discounts. Some of our fellow train travellers were not particularly impressed by the show from a consumer point of view, they felt it was a bit “SAMEY.”
The iconic Ideal Home Show showhomes were very contemporary this year and again Sweden showed it’s strength as timber house builders by exhibiting a stunning panel home furnished and accessorised by IKEA.
As you weave your way through the show houses you cannot fail but see how IKEA come up with genius storage solutions for every space in the home and even though the houses were open plan, there was a clearer definition on the space inside for living / eating / kitchen that was very well thought out and very attractive.
Open Plan But With A Little More Of That Cosy Feeling For Dining
The dining room in particular had a whole ambiance about it as a formal space in it’s own right rather than just an extension of the kitchen and there was an abundance of laptops and computers everywhere ( including a home office space off the living room) demonstrating modern time living and our passion for technology and communication.
With it’s usual blend of Good Food, Shopping, Gadgets, Gardens and Home Furnishings on offer you really are far more likely to find something more enticing than what is on offer every day on the High Street.
If you visit the Ideal Gardens area you will be able to visit our Contemporary Log Studio cabin and bag a few special Lillevilla offers at the show .. the show is still running all this week until April 1st 2012.
The Star Of The Show At Eco-Build
A short trip back on the Tube to Tower Hill and you step out into a part of London where you have the historic Tower Of London and Tower Bridge glistening in the sunshine to your right as you cross the road to take the overground DLR (Docklands Light Railway) to London’s Docklands where the Excel exhibition centre is located.
The first surprise when we reached Excel was that registration and entry was FREE … (it is 30 pence to use the toilet facilities at Euston!) this is London afterall and the second surprise was the sheer size of the Eco-Build exhibition which sprawled over two enormous halls making it by far the largest exhibition of eco-friendly products, companies and vision for the future that we had seen in the UK.
The Finnish Contemporary Mobile Log Home Was Featured At Eco-Build
Nestled in this amazing exhibition at the show organisers invitation was our own Finnish Contemporary mobile log home which looked absolutely stunning and drew lots of admiring glances from the show visitors and visitors with a commercial interest in creating a whole new staycation option for their customers looking for something different for the UK based holidays and weekends away from it all.
For a brochure about the Finnish Contemporary visit our Log Mobile Homes Page to download one right now.
The Eco-Build exhibition showed that there is HUGE investment in a greener, more eco-friendly future in the UK and throughout the Chancellors Budget there were indication that this also plays a very big part in future building design and placing more importance on driving the construction industry in particular forward.
The landscape of London itself showed just how much investment is going on in developing more contemporary offices and buildings with glass walls and stylish modern looking open plan buildings cropping up everywhere you look including The Shard which dominates the skyline along the Thames right now.
Within Eco-Build there was more on display than you could possibly take in and one of the best features about Excel is that (unlike the NEC in Birmingham) you are never far from an exit down to the Docklands walkway and a cafe that spans the length of the building itself.
With thousands of exhibitors showcasing the latest in energy saving glass, triple glazed windows and doors, flooring, roofing materials, timber frame houses, component parts, rain water harvesting, heating systems, and construction materials you would be hard pushed to understand why there is so much resistance at the Local Planning Authority level blocking us all moving forward.
So the sooner we at Contemporary Log Living start breaking down a few barriers and smashing through a few glass ceilings the better it will be for the UK consumer and for UK businesses.
Working Alongside The World’s Largest Log Home Builder
